The geological garden in Halle (Saale) is located in the inner courtyard of the geosciences department of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . The location is in the former Army and Air Force News School , which is used by the university. The idea came up in 1997 and was implemented between 2002 and 2003.

Rocks weighing a total of 300 tons from all parts of Germany are exhibited in the courtyard, including 40 boulders weighing up to 30 tons. The exhibits represent igneous rocks , sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks from the geological ages between the Precambrian and Quaternary . Their arrangement is based on the spiral of an ammonite ( Holcophylloceras ) and the shape of a wedge leaf plant ( Sphenophyllum ).
