Genscher's house
The house where Hans-Dietrich Genscher (1927-2016) was born in Halle (Saale) is referred to as the Genscher House . It is the home of the German Unity Education and Meeting Center, which opened in 2010, and the permanent exhibition Unity in Freedom, which opened in December 2012 . Building and location
The Genscher House is located at Schönnewitzer Straße 9a in the Reideburg district of Halle. It was built in 1865/66 as a late classicist house. The building, which had been vacant for many years, was opened in 2008 a. a. renovated with the help of donations for today's purpose. Cornelia Pieper was one of the initiators .
Permanent exhibition "Unity in Freedom"
The content of the permanent exhibition co-designed by the Archive of Liberalism of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom has the following thematic focuses:
- Tradition and content of liberalism in Germany
- Division of Germany and Europe as a result of the National Socialist dictatorship
- Peaceful revolution in the GDR from 1989/1990 up to German unification
- Away from the division of Europe to the eastward expansion of the European Union
The exhibits include a facsimile of the so-called two-plus-four contract signed in 1990 .
