Georg-Winfried Schmidt
Georg-Winfried Schmidt (born February 2, 1917 in Königsberg , East Prussia , † January 10, 2008 ) was a German pediatrician and university professor .
Life
Georg-Winfried Schmidt, son of the physician Erwin Schmidt and Maria, née Jacoby, graduated from high school in Insterburg in 1936 , then did Reich labor service and military service until 1938 , before studying medicine at the Universities of Königsberg and Freiburg in the same year im Breisgau , in 1942 he passed the medical state examination and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . Georg-Winfried Schmidt subsequently served as a troop doctor during the Second World War , and after the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the Allies, from which he was released in 1947.
In the same year Georg-Winfried Schmidt took up a position as an assistant doctor at the University Children's Clinic in Freiburg im Breisgau, and in 1951 he moved to the University Children's Clinic in Giessen . Schmidt, who was recognized as a specialist in paediatrics at the end of 1950, completed his habilitation there in 1957 as a private lecturer in this subject, and in 1963 he was promoted to associate professor . Georg-Winfried Schmidt, who was appointed full professor in 1971, was retired in 1980.
Georg-Winfried Schmidt's special fields of work included the areas of amino acids and protein metabolism as well as the introduction of complete parenteral nutrition for children.
