Georg Andreas von Rosen ( Russian Григорий Владимирович Розен, Grigori Wladimirowitsch Rosen ; * September 19, July / 30,  1781 greg. , † August 3, July / August 15,  1841 greg. In Moscow ) was a general of the Imperial Russian Army .

Life

origin

Georg Andreas von Rosen was a member of the Estonian Barons von Rosen . His parents were the Russian Lieutenant General Woldemar von Rosen (1742-1790) and his wife Olimpiada Fedorovna, née Raewskaja. The Russian major general Alexander von Rosen (1780–1833) was his brother.

Career

Rosen entered Russian military service in 1789 and took part in the campaigns in Poland and Italy under Suvorov , becoming a colonel in 1806 , major general in 1809 , brigade commander in 1811 and commander of the 1st Guard Brigade in 1812, at whose head he was in the battle of Borodino and in the battle near Mozhaisk and later distinguished in the pursuit of the French. In the Battle of Großgörschen and the Battle of Bautzen he was deployed as commander of the 1st Grenadier Division, then fought with the Ostermann Corps near Kulm and in October 1813 as Lieutenant General in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , and in the spring of 1814 near Arcis-sur -Aube and Montmartre . He received the Prussian Pour le Mérite and the Iron Cross 1st class.

In February 1831 he led after the Polish uprising under Field Marshal Diebitsch the VI. Infantry Corps and defeated the Poles in the bloody battle at Grochów , but was defeated the following month at Dembe-Wielki and Iganie by General Skrzynecki . After the Polish uprising was suppressed, he was appointed governor of the Transcaucasian provinces and became commander in chief of the troops in the Caucasus . He defeated Kasi-Mulla in October 1832 and took Gimry , the main stronghold, by storm. However , he was unable to do anything against the Chechen leader Shamil until 1836.

Appointed senator and member of the council of war in Saint Petersburg , he died on August 15, 1841.

In 1811 he married Countess Elisabeth Subow (born October 19, 1792 - February 9, 1862), daughter of Count Dmitri Subow († 1836) and Praskovia Vyazemsky. The couple had several children:

  • Alexander (12 December 1812 - 24 January 1874), lieutenant colonel.

⚭ 1847 Princess Elisabeth Svyatopolk-Tschetwertinsky († 1874), daughter of Prince Boris Svyatopolk-Tschetwertinsky and Nadine Gagarin.
  • Dmitri (born June 20, 1815), Colonel ⚭ 1845 Maria Ladyshenski (widow of Mikhail Lvov, governor of Vitebsk), daughter of Feodor Ladyshensky and Barbara Islenjew.
