Georg Christoph Kreyziger , also Kreysig , (born October 7, 1695 in Dörfel , † January 13, 1758 in Dresden ) was a German bookseller and regional historian.

Life

The son of the village judge of the same name from the Erzgebirge village attended the school in Annaberg from 1707 to 1713 and then studied history and theology at the universities in Leipzig and Wittenberg . After graduating with a master's degree in 1718, he worked as a private tutor in various places and returned to Annaberg in 1722. In 1724 he settled in Dresden, where he was initially employed as a private tutor to Hofrat Bastineller. From 1725 he was at the side of the auctioneer Johann Christian Heyden , after whose death he took over the office of the royal book and medal auctioneer . He worked as a bibliographer and historian, dealing in particular with the regional and state history of Upper Saxony. In close collaboration with the historians Johann Georg Knauth , Johann Gottlob Horn (1748–1796) and Johann Christian Schöttgen , he put together several multi-volume collections of sources on the history of Saxony. He is considered to be one of the most important pioneers of scientifically founded regional historiography in Saxony.
