Georg Friedrich Witte

Georg Friedrich Witte (born January 29, 1799 in Schleswig , † June 24, 1865 in Grund in the Harz ) was a town councilor and appellate judge .

Life

Witte studied law at the University of Heidelberg in 1818 and became a member of the Corps Holsatia Heidelberg. From 1821 he worked as a lawyer in Kiel . Witte was politically active and tried to get the Kiel council to petition the Danish king to support Uwe Jens Lornsen's efforts to create a constitution for Schleswig and Holstein . In addition, he was active in the Society of Voluntary Poor Friends and was a member of the board of the Kieler Spar- und Leihkasse founded by the society . Together with the Kiel mayor, Schwen Hans Jensen , he campaigned for the Altona-Kiel Railway and for the development of the Damperhof district .

From 1844, Georg Friedrich Witte was Kiel city councilor for 20 years before he went to Flensburg in 1864 to become a judge of appeal. On April 2, 1864, the city of Kiel awarded him honorary citizenship “in grateful recognition of his outstanding services to the community well-being, to which he devoted all his strength and activity with beneficial success during his many years in office” .

Witte died on June 24, 1865 during a recreational stay in Grund in the Harz Mountains. He was buried in the St. Jürgen cemetery in Kiel .
