Georg Wilhelm Eduard Gewiese (born April 15, 1869 in Waldenburg in Silesia , † April 20, 1917 in Pleschen in Posen ) was a German lawyer and government official. From 1904 to 1917 he was district administrator of the Pleschen district .

Life

Georg Gewiese was born in 1869 as the son of Hugo Gewiese, master builder in Waldenburg, and Adele Becker. He was married to Antonie called Toni Maria Christine Meta Rospatt, sister of the Birnbaum district administrator (von) Rospatt. With her he had two children Lotte Julie Adele Gewiese and Georg Hans Hugo Gewiese. He was the uncle of the philosopher Hans-Georg Gadamer .

Gewiese studied law at the universities of Leipzig , Lausanne , Halle and Berlin . During his studies in Lausanne he became a member of the Société d'Étudiants Germania Lausanne . In 1888 he did one year military service in the 10th Saxon Infantry Regiment No. 134 of the Royal Saxon Army . In 1892 he was promoted to lieutenant in the reserve of this regiment.

In the same year he also passed the legal trainee exam . After writing his dissertation, he was promoted to Dr. iur. doctorate and then worked as a government assessor from 1897. In 1904 he was appointed district administrator of the Pleschen district in the Prussian province of Posen . He was considered extremely popular and held this office for 14 years until his death. He was buried in the Protestant cemetery in Pleschen.
