Georg Heinrich Gerhard Spiel (born May 30, 1786 in Nordheim ; † February 5, 1822 ) was a lawyer , civil servant , historian , author and editor .

In the magazine Vaterländisches Archiv he founded, Spiel referred to the publication of the unused documents in the archives . He gave the decisive initiative for founding the Historical Association for Lower Saxony, which is still active today .

Georg Heinrich Gerhard was the son of the (later) procurator Spiel († March 25, 1811 ) of the Higher Appeal Court in Celle . He married in 1815.

Professional career and illness

After attending the city school in Celle , he attended grammar school in Gotha for a year to study law at the University of Göttingen from 1805 .

Back in Celle in November 1807, Spiel  settled down as trustee and two years later was elected as a senator to the city's magistrate . In 1810 he was transferred to Nienburg / Weser as procurator of the local court of first instance. After his father's death, Spiel returned to Celle to take up his vacant position as procurator of the Higher Appeal Court.

After the end of French rule and the formal repossession of the Electorate of Hanover by Duke Ernst August von Cumberland on November 4, 1813, Spiel resigned "to the old urban situation and at the same time became ... Procurator" (of the Celle law firm).

Shortly after his wedding in 1815, "a dangerous illness from which he recovered only slowly." Although Spiel was elected city ​​secretary in Celle in 1820 , it was not until 1821 that "a trip to Norderney ... had given him full health again, but already on February 5th, 1822 he succumbed to his suffering.
