Georg Joachim Mark

Georg Joachim Mark (born March 1, 1726 in Schwerin ; † March 5, 1774 ) was a German Lutheran theologian and librarian.

Life

Georg Joachim Mark was the son of the rector of the Schwerin Cathedral School Nicolaus Jacob Mark († 1747). From 1741 he studied theology at the University of Kiel , where he received his master's degree in 1745 with his dissertation on the King James Bible , the English translation of the Bible from 1611 . He was promoted in Kiel by his uncle Ernst Joachim Westphal . He first became assessor at the Philosophical Faculty in Kiel and in 1752 librarian to Hereditary Prince Ludwig of Mecklenburg . In 1758 he was appointed full professor of theology in Kiel and held this professorship until his death. It was in 1766 at the University of Greifswald Dr. theol. PhD and was a member of the German Society of Greifswald . In the year before his death, he bequeathed his library to Kiel University Library . He also donated a scholarship. Mark wrote numerous theological writings as well as poems and spiritual songs.
