Georg Johann Koehler

Georg Johann Köhler (born December 1, 1890 in Langenberg ; died February 12, 1944 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German painter, graphic artist and poster artist.

Georg Johann Köhler completed an apprenticeship with Friedrich Wilhelm Kleukens in Darmstadt in 1907 and studied with Becker-Gundahl at the Munich Art Academy . Posters for artist festivals have survived from his time in Munich. Köhler was a soldier in the First World War and was taken prisoner of war. In 1919 he settled in Darmstadt as a graphic artist. He designed advertising posters for companies in the region, including E. Merck in Darmstadt and Adlerwerke in Frankfurt am Main. In 1926 he had a poster exhibition in the Darmstadt art gallery . He also created book illustrations.

Köhler was married to Ruth Blecher, their son Florian Köhler (1937–2013) also became a painter.
