Georg Kurlbaum

Georg Kurlbaum (born May 2, 1902 in Berlin , † December 23, 1988 in Nuremberg ) was a German SPD politician .

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Kurlbaum first studied economics and law in Tübingen and Berlin from 1920 , but soon switched to electrical engineering studies at the Technical University of Berlin . After graduating as a qualified engineer, he worked from 1926 to 1929 as a laboratory engineer at the Deutsche Reichspost and then for two years for the German Aviation Research Institute in the USA . From 1931 to 1941 Kurlbaum worked in Telefunken's international business . In 1941 he became a board member of Metrawatt AG in Nuremberg.

In October 1965 Kurlbaum married his party friend Lucie Beyer (1914-2008), who was also a member of the Bundestag . The Georg Kurlbaum Prize of the SPD is named after him.

Kurlbaum, who had been a member of the SPD since 1946, was first elected to the German Bundestag in 1949, at that time as a direct candidate for the Schwabach constituency . As a result, he remained a member of parliament until 1969, with the exception of the 1965 election , in which he won the constituency of Nuremberg-North directly, he always entered parliament via the state list of the Bavarian SPD. From 1957 to 1961 Kurlbaum was deputy. Chairman of the Economic Committee of the Bundestag. From November 1958 until he left parliament, he headed the Economic Policy Working Group of the SPD parliamentary group.

Honors

Georg Kurlbaum was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1961 and the Great Federal Cross of Merit in 1968 .
