Georg Lange (born August 15, 1883 in Schlawa , Freystadt i. Niederschles. , † May 13, 1964 in Berlin ) was a German local politician .

Life

Georg Heinrich Lange was the son of the inn owner, liqueur manufacturer and farmer Heinrich Carl Erdmann Lange (1843–1890) and his wife Maria Pauline (1850–1928) from Schlawa. His first marriage was to Gertrud Enger (1873–1932) and had two sons: Georg-Heinrich Lange (1914–1976) and Hans Heinrich Lange (1920–2015). His older brother was the Leipzig publisher Ernst Heinrich Lange (1876–1952) a cousin was the doctor Georg Hauffe (1972–1936).

After graduating from high school, Georg Lange studied law in Munich and Breslau from 1902 to 1906 and graduated as Dr. jur. from. He then joined the Berlin magistrate as a magistrate's assistant in Wilmersdorf (1912) and Schöneberg (1914). After the First World War in which he took part, he was elected to the city council in Schöneberg in 1919. From 1920 to 1926 he was General Tax Director and then City Treasurer in Berlin under Lord Mayor Gustav Boess . Like Boess, he was elected to this function by the German Democratic Party . After Böß resigned, Georg Lange retired in 1930; he was followed by Bruno Asch , previously treasurer of Frankfurt am Main .

After leaving office, he settled as a lawyer in Berlin. After the Second World War , Georg Lange again took on tasks in local politics; Bombed out in Berlin, he worked as mayor in Krausnick in the Spreewald. From May 27, 1946 he was a district councilor in Berlin-Wilmersdorf and from 1955 to 1959 a member of the district assembly of Wilmersdorf. In recognition of his achievements, he was appointed City Elder of Berlin on August 18, 1958 (No. 154).

His is located in the state's own Schmargendorf cemetery , Misdroyer Straße 51-53 (grave no. Dept. H, 59a / b). It has been dedicated to the city of Berlin as an honorary grave since 1978 .
