Felix Eugenio Mkhori

Felix Eugenio Mkhori (born August 24, 1931 in Mtenje ; † October 27, 2012 in Blantyre ) was Bishop of Lilongwe .

Life

After his philosophical and theological training, Felix Mkhori was ordained a priest on September 8, 1961 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on September 29, 1977 auxiliary bishop in Chikwawa and titular bishop of Sicca Veneria . The Bishop of Chikwawa, Eugen Joseph Frans Vroemen SMM , donated to him on January 8, 1978 in the Cathedral of Limbe , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Matthias A. Chimole , Bishop of Lilongwe, and James Chiona , Archbishop of Blantyre .

John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Chikwawa on February 12, 1979. On January 23, 2001, he was appointed Bishop of Lilongwe . He was involved in the Association of Bishops' Conferences of East Africa (AMECEA) . Mkhori was from 1994 to 2000 chairman of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM).

On July 4, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.

Act

He has campaigned repeatedly for human rights in Malawi; Together with seven bishops, he was a signatory of the declaration "Living in our Faith", which was directed against human rights violations and abuse of power by the regime of dictator Hastings Kamuzu Banda . He and the other bishops were then placed under house arrest and sentenced to death.

Mkhori was considered an important mediator between the various ethnic and religious groups in Malawi and a supporter of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC).

Bishop Mkhori visited the diocese of Magdeburg in 2003 at the invitation of Bishop Leo Nowak .
