Georg Nelius (born July 28, 1949 in Mosbach ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After primary school and secondary school in 1966, Nelius completed training in the state justice service. He then passed the Abitur at the business school in Mosbach and studied German and history at the Heidelberg University of Education until 1976 . He then worked from 1977 to 1989 as a secondary school teacher in Walldorf and Walldürn before moving to a secondary school in Mosbach. Nelius is a Protestant, married and has two children.

In 1970 Georg Nelius joined the SPD and was elected to the Mosbach municipal council in 1984, where he became chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in 1992 and later became the honorary deputy mayor. In 1999 he was elected to the district council of the Neckar-Odenwald district and was also a member of the association assembly of the Rhine-Neckar-Odenwald region from 1999–2004 . In May 2007, Nelius replaced the late Karl-Heinz Joseph in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg . He took on a second mandate from constituency 38 (Neckar-Odenwald) , which he retained in the 2011 state election . In the state elections in 2016 he received 15.2% of the vote and came back to the state parliament with a second mandate.
