Georg Neumüller

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Neumüller (born March 24, 1885 in Vienna as Georg Lindmüller; † June 24, 1953 in Murnau am Staffelsee ) was an Austrian lecturer, comedian and folk singer.

life and work

Georg Neumüller came to Munich at a young age . He was a lithographer by profession. In 1903 he made his debut as a folk singer. He did not appear under his real name, but as "Bauernsepp" in front of his audience. The venues were folk singers' stages in Munich taverns and musical halls.

According to the old folk singer tradition, Neumüller wrote most of the texts himself. The ways for some of his lectures came from Hans Blädel and the Munich bandmaster Toni Thoms ; Siegwart Ehrlich wrote the music for a couplet . So-called peasant bands such as "D'Original-Dachauer" Sedelmayer-Schmidt often accompanied his lectures. Occasionally, just a guitar or piano would do it.

His laugh couplets were a particular specialty; a genre popular with small artists at the time, which he mastered to the highest degree due to a certain breathing technique.

Neumüller was friends with Karl Valentin , who generously granted him performance rights for several of his performance pieces. An exchange of letters between the two artists has survived from the years between 1912 and 1915; Both knew each other from joint engagements at the “Vienna-Munich” variety theater in the Hotel Wagner on Sonnenstrasse and from the Deutsches Theater .

Like Valentin, Neumüller also discussed several records for the Electrola, Artiphon and Isiphon brands with his own texts during the 1920s. But already in the early days around 1903 he had made some recordings for “Grammophon”.

Georg Neumüller died on June 24, 1953 in Murnau / Upper Bavaria.

Individual evidence

  1. See price p. 56 and Note 196
  2. The Hans-Blädel Couplet "I am the Seppl from the country / run in the city around one another" may have been the inspiration for the name , which the latter often sang - also on records. In it, the 'foolish' customs of the big city dwellers from the point of view of the simple farmer are targeted.
  3. Cf. muenchen-online.de: Karl Valentin and Liesl Karlstadt initially had their big appearances on the folk singer stages in the well-known taverns and musical halls. There they might also meet famous contemporary folk singers like Karl Maxstadt, Hans Blädel and Georg Neumüller ...
  4. See label at Georg Neumüller - Das Lachcouplet . One of the most famous was the “1. original Dachauer “Bauernkapelle” by Hans Straßmaier , who was engaged in the Munich entertainment venue “Platzl”; a photo under [1] , cf. Advertising brochure [2]
  5. Cf. his song “Because I am a cow” or his Lohengrin parody.
  6. Folk singers like Hans Blädel, Seppl Dammhofer, August Junker and Richard Waldemar had laugh couplets in their repertoire. Soubrettes like Margarete Wiedeke and Lucie Bernardo specialized in laughter artists. The Deutsche Mutoskop- und Biograph GmbH., An early film company in Berlin, even produced a sound image in 1908 that preserved a laugh couplet: the image on a movie, the sound on e. Gramophone record, cf. Laughter Couplet - filmportal.de
  7. See price p. 110: ... Laughter couplets in which the speaker was apparently shaken by fits of laughter instead of a refrain between the stanzas, but in reality, however, evoked and completely controlled this laughter with the help of the singer's "breathing aid". Georg Neumüller, for example, was a master of this technique and recorded numerous shellac records with laugh couplets. and note 418, cf. z. B. Neumüller, Georg: The golden laugh. Couplet.
