As an active footballer and referee , Georg Blaschke was one of the pioneers of football in Germany. At the beginning of his career he was a member of the Kiel men's gymnastics club from 1844, alongside players like Artur Beier . After the club had forbidden him and eight other players in October 1900 to play a soccer game against the gymnastics club in Lübeck , these nine soccer players left the club and founded the 1st Kiel soccer club from 1900, which in 1917 with SV Holstein from 1902 merged to Holstein Kiel .

In addition to his club activities, Georg Blaschke was one of the founding members of the North German Football Association , which he founded on April 15, 1905 together with representatives from 43 other North German clubs in the Hamburg beer pub "Tucherbräu" on Jungfernstieg. A board committee made up of six "district princes" appointed Blaschke as second chairman, an office he held until 1909, from 1928 he was its first chairman.

At the Bundestag of the German Football Association on May 14 and 15, 1910 in Cologne, Blaschke was unanimously elected 1st Secretary of the DFB. From then on, he was re-elected annually until 1928, which means he was also a member of the DFB board until his death in 1929. In the DFB he was, among other things, an expert on the so-called "pleasure tax" as well as the current conflict at that time over mostly Sunday soccer games and the "Sunday sanctification".

When the office of the DFB was relocated to Kiel in 1916, Blaschke took over the executive chairmanship there on an honorary basis. In this role, he also accompanied the German national soccer team at international matches , for example to the Easter Monday game in Amsterdam in 1924. Since the team consisted exclusively of players from 1. FC Nürnberg and SpVgg Greuther Fürth these days , but these two clubs were enemies, the "Expedition Leader 'Papa' Blaschke" had to mediate between the two teams in order to make the game possible do as is traditional.

"He constantly commutes from one group to the other. But his attempts at reconciliation collide with icy rejection. 'Children, for God's sake, make up! You have to play with each other!" He admonishes the people of Nuremberg in despair Heiner Stuhlfauth, 'you don't need to be afraid, we spool with them. But no more.' "

Throughout his life, Blaschke not only campaigned for his club and the associations, but also tried to gain social recognition of football and the youth work. In an article for the DFB's anniversary book on its 25th anniversary in 1925, he wrote:

"The position of the authorities, especially the school, towards our endeavors has become freer and more accommodating ..."

Blaschke's wife Ella Blaschke, whom he married on August 21, 1903 in Kiel, also took part in her husband's football-political activities. Under the pseudonym "Ella Norden" she contributed a chapter to the yearbook for the 20th anniversary of the DFB, which was published in 1920. It was entitled "The parents and the football game. From a mother", which emphasized the educational advantages of football, which was still frowned upon in many places even at this time.

Just as vehemently, however, Blaschke also campaigned against professional football , the "professional gamblers", which from his point of view did not get along with the "youth care". In the yearbook of the DFB of 1925 he wrote: "We fight professional gamblers for ethical reasons, because we see something other than mere entertainment in our football events. It would be an outrage against our German youth if we wanted to become a professional Favor Germany even in the slightest. " For Blaschke there was another argument against the professionalization of football: the taxation of football games. Thirdly, he was also interested in motivating cities and municipalities to create sports fields that the clubs could then take on a long lease . Blaschke also saw this togetherness of clubs and municipalities at risk if the DFB showed concession on the professional player question.

In 1924 Georg Blaschke was elected honorary city councilor in Kiel. At his own request, he was then given early retirement as an administrative inspector. From then on, Blaschke took part in the meetings of the sports officers of the German Association of Cities as a Kiel department head .

In the course of 1926 Georg Blaschke took over the post of chairman of the press committee of the DFB after the resignation of the previous chairman. Among other things, he managed a news paper with which the association maintained contact with around 800 newspaper correspondents.

In 1927 Blaschke published a book entitled "The Referee Primer", in which he let various experts have their say, including Heinrich Retschury from Vienna and the referee Paul Paetow from Hamburg.

In autumn 1927 Blaschke fell seriously ill and was unable to work as managing director of the DFB for months. For this reason, too, the DFB office was finally relocated to Berlin in October 1927. In March 1928 he was elected first chairman at the Association Day of the North German Football Association in Bremen, in October 1928 Blaschke resigned from the Bundestag of the DFB and did not stand for re-election.

On the occasion of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the North German Football Association, a torchlight procession was held in Kiel in honor of Georg Blaschke, and the city's magistrate also decided to rename the Werftpark sports field "Blaschke-Platz". The place where TuS Gaarden plays today still bears this name . He was also made an honorary member by the Association of Lawn Sports Clubs in Greater Cologne and a personal member by the German Reich Committee for Physical Exercise. In December 1928, Blaschke finally became an honorary member of the German Football Association.

Georg Blaschke died on May 5, 1929 in Kiel from the consequences of severe pneumonia. After a public memorial service on the municipal sports and playground on May 8, 1929, he was buried in Kiel.
