Georg Peters (full name: Georg Bartelt Peters ; born March 29, 1908 in Marienhafe , † August 3, 1992 in Norden ) was a German SPD politician .

biography

education and profession

After attending primary school, Peters completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter, during which he joined the union in 1923. A year later he became a member of the Socialist Workers' Youth and in 1926 the SPD. After a time as a traveling journeyman, he attended the adult education center and then the labor school. In the Second World War he was a soldier from 1942 to 1945. After the Second World War he participated in the reconstruction of the SPD in East Friesland and became its chairman in the north district . He was also a member of the party committee in the Weser-Ems district association. Peters was a member of the German Bundestag from 1949 to 1972 . He always won the direct mandate in the constituency of Aurich-Emden and Emden-Leer in 1965 and 1969 , most recently with 50.8 percent of the first votes.

Public offices

From 1946 to 1949, from 1956 to 1964 and from 1972 to 1976, Peters was district administrator for the north district. In this capacity he became chairman of the founding committee of the German North Sea Coast Protection Association in 1972 . At times he was a member of the constitutional committee of the Lower Saxony district assembly. From 1964 to 1968 Peters was mayor in Norden.
