August Edmund Paul Georg Schulze (born May 31, 1846 in Berlin ; † 1932 ) was a German teacher and headmaster, philologist, Germanist and Sanskrit researcher .

Life

Georg Schulze was a member of the Guard Fusilier Regiment in the Franco-German War of 1870/71 in the battles near St. Privat and Sedan as well as in the siege of Paris .

He obtained his doctorate in 1867 at the University of Göttingen with a thesis dedicated to Ludwig Weiland on the subject of the relationship between the Ζ and the corresponding sounds in related languages . In response to his objections to Georg Curtius ' presentation contained therein , the latter subjected the latter to a detailed examination in the second volume of his studies on Greek and Latin grammar from 1869. Schulze publicly disputed on August 7, 1867 on the subject of the dental proposal of iodine .

In the summer of 1876 he was employed as an assistant teacher at the French grammar school and on September 29, 1876 at the Leibniz grammar school in Berlin. In 1881 he was promoted to senior teacher, in 1884 appointed rector of the 1st municipal high school in Berlin-Charlottenburg . His focus there was to “cultivate and promote the practical skills of the students without impairing the necessary degree of theoretical and scientific knowledge in language lessons in the slightest.” From Easter 1888 until his retirement on April 1, 1912 he was Director of the French grammar school in Berlin . After him Albert Gottschick was provisionally appointed director, who himself could not speak French , and French was deleted as the language of instruction.

Georg Schulze had been married to Olga Schulze, née Tirpitz, a sister of Alfred von Tirpitz , since 1878 . Resistance fighter Harro Schulze-Boysen emerged from the marriage of their son Erich Edgar Schulze to Marie Luise Boysen . Another son was Werner Schulze .
