Georg Schuster (born May 16, 1921 in Jetzendorf ; † October 18, 2011 in Germering ) was a German Roman Catholic priest . For his great commitment to rebuilding the Pasing Marian Column, he is known to a large part of the population in the Munich district of Pasing to this day.

Life

Georg Schuster was born on the Bergmüller property in Jetzendorf and grew up there too. In Jetzendorf he was therefore known as Bergmüller Schorsch . After graduating from high school, he was drafted into military service in 1940 and became an American prisoner of war. From 1945 he studied Roman Catholic theology at the Philosophical-Theological College in Freising and was ordained a priest in 1950 in Freising Cathedral by Michael von Faulhaber . After positions as chaplain and cooperator in St. Andreas in Teisendorf and St. Ursula in Munich, he was the first pastor of the newly established parish of St. Christophorus in Percha on Lake Starnberg from 1960 to 1968 . From 1968 to 2001 he was pastor of the parish Maria Schutz in Munich-Pasing . For his charismatic nature and his direct pastoral care oriented towards the welfare of his fellow human beings , Schuster always enjoyed a high reputation that went far beyond the boundaries of his respective parish.

Schuster spent his retirement in the Don Bosco retirement home in Germering, where he also worked as a pastor until 2008.

Memorial inscription on the back of the Pasinger Mariensäule

As a founding member of the Pasinger Mariensäule eV association , founded in 1977 , he campaigned with great dedication for the rebuilding of the Pasinger Mariensäule on October 24, 1980 on Marienplatz , which had been in the care of the English Misses since the Soviet Republic. In the following years he established the annual light procession on the day of the Pasing Marian column . In 2014 he was honored for his commitment with an inscription on the Marian column.

Until his death, Schuster remained very closely connected to his hometown Jetzendorf. Already at his primacy, which he celebrated in 1950 in the courtyard there, around 1,700 people were present. At his personal request, he was buried there next to his two sisters.

Schuster was related to the first bishop of Sweden, Johann Evangelist Müller , who came from neighboring Gründholm near Reichertshausen .
