Georg Wiese

Carl Georg Helmuth Wiese (born December 22, 1830 in Güstrow , † February 5, 1888 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Georg Wiese was the son of the confectioner Johann Georg Wiese. He attended the community school in his hometown Güstrow. He received his artistic training first from the sculptor Hermann Behr in Rostock , then from Ludwig Wichmann and Christian Daniel Rauch in Berlin . Around 1855 he was involved in the sculptural decoration of the Schwerin Palace .

There is evidence of Wiese as a sculptor in Berlin until 1887. His artistic work is not very extensive; he never managed to make a name for himself.

Works

1856: four allegories "Cattle Breeding", "Hunting", "Sea Shipping" and "River Shipping"; two reliefs "castle guard"; several winged geniuses for the Schwerin Castle
1857: four allegorical figures for the building of the Schwerin savings institution : Charity , hard work , thrift , preservation of savings
1858: Infantryman and artilleryman for the Schwerin arsenal
1861: "Rossbändiger" for Berlin
1865: four allegorical figures "War", "Victory", "Peace", "Mourning" and reliefs "Exodus", "Homecoming" and medallions Friedrich Franz I and Friedrich Franz II for the Güstrow Freedom Monument (partly based on designs by Albert Wolff )
