Georg Wilhelm Stein the Younger

Georg Wilhelm Stein (born March 26, 1773 in Kassel ; † February 10, 1870 in Bonn ), called the Younger in distinction to his uncle of the same name and teacher of the same profession , was a German obstetrician and university professor.

Life path

From 1792 studied stone at the University of Marburg and was there on 8 July 1797 to MD PhD ; at the same time he received permission to practice medical practice and the art of delivery in Kassel . In the same year he also passed the obstetrician exam in Marburg.

In 1803 he was appointed professor of childbirth at the University of Marburg as the successor to his uncle of the same name . A year later he also became co-director for the scientific subject at the maternity hospital in Marburg. In 1806 he received the "directorate of the economic subject" of the "Accouchierinstitut" and was thus the sole director. He mainly taught obstetrics, more rarely about gynecological and childhood diseases, physiology and forensic medicine.

In 1819 he changed to the functions of director of the "obstetric clinic" and professor of obstetrics at the University of Bonn , where he taught until 1826, but was officially held until 1835. Since 1820 he was a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
