Georg Wilhelm Wanderer (born September 25, 1803 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber , † August 2, 1863 in Nuremberg ) was a German portrait painter .

Life

Georg Wilhelm Wanderer began his painter studies in 1820 at the age of sixteen in the history painting class at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich .

After completing his studies, Wanderer devoted himself almost exclusively to portraiture. He worked in Munich, Augsburg and Nuremberg, but often visited his hometown Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where in 1836 he painted the portrait of Lieutenant Gottlieb Philipp Nusch.

He married in May 1828 and in 1840 became the father of Friedrich Wilhelm Wanderer (1840–1910), who also became a painter.
