Georg Winckler

Georg Winckler , von Dölitz since 1650 (born April 3, 1582 in Salzwedel ; † January 10, 1654 ) was a Leipzig merchant who became the origin of a noble family widespread in the Leipzig area.

Life

Georg Winckler became a citizen of Leipzig in 1604 and traded in silk and other goods. His income enabled him to purchase the Dölitz manor, south of Leipzig, with a Renaissance castle from Christoph von Crostewitz, who got into debt due to damage in the Thirty Years' War , for 28,000 guilders . It was to remain in the family for almost 300 years. The Meusdorf Vorwerk belonged to Gut Dölitz and also the village of Stünz northeast of Leipzig.

Beyond the purchase, he was able to thoroughly renovate the dilapidated palace between 1636 and 1640 with the help of Leipzig builders. In 1649/50 he renovated the Dölitzer mill belonging to the estate and reconstructed the weir. It was also around this time that he parceled out the Dölitz raft place on Bornaische Strasse for street houses, since rafting had not been carried out via the Pleiße but via the Elsterfloßgraben since the beginning of the 17th century .

On November 25, 1650, Georg Winckler was named by Dölitz together with his sons Benedict, Andreas, Heinrich and Paul due to military service from Emperor Ferdinand III. raised to the imperial nobility in Vienna . They received the Privilegium Denominandi , the use of which was subsequently only continued by their son Andreas, who had taken over the paternal manor Dölitz, and his descendants. However, he did not call himself von Dölitz , but Andreas von Winckler and built the gatehouse in the shape that has been preserved to this day. In the other branches of the family, however, individual nobility renewals took place later. The numerous members of the following generations were active in many fields. They made careers in sovereign administration, in the military and as merchants. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the family provided several councilors, master builders, city governors and mayors of the city of Leipzig. They were lawyers and university professors.

family

Georg Winckler was married twice, from 1610 to 1612 with Elisabeth, b. Fächer, who presumably died in childbed and from 1613 to 1642 with Ursula, geb. Haggling. From the first marriage came the son Georg (1612–1637) and from the second the sons Benedikt (1621–1688), Andreas (1623–1675), Heinrich (1628–1704) and Paulus (1630–1651).
