Georg Witt (film producer)

Georg Witt (born January 2 . Jul / 14. January  1899 greg. In Moscow , Russian Empire ; † 17th April 1973 in Berlin ) was a German film producer .

Life

Witt came to Germany at a young age and began his professional career in film in 1922 in the press department of the Decla-Bioskop production company. Their co-founder Erich Pommer made him his production assistant and took him to Hollywood in 1926/27 .

From 1929 he worked as a production manager for the Berlin Greenbaum film. In 1932 he founded his own company, Georg-Witt-Film. With Land der Liebe and Altes Herz goes on the journey , he came into conflict with the National Socialist censorship twice in 1937/38. In 1940 his company was taken over by the UFA . Witt initially worked as a production manager or production group leader, but then moved to Bavaria in the same position .

After the war ended, Witt re-founded Georg-Witt-Film in Munich . He had his first big success in 1953 with Ein Herz plays wrong . Since 1955 he has worked exclusively with the director Kurt Hoffmann and achieved two more box office hits with I think often of Piroschka (1955) and Das Wirtshaus im Spessart (1958), which were also favorably received by film critics . Witt was married to actress Lil Dagover . He is buried next to his wife in the Grünwald forest cemetery.
