George of Borne

Gustav Hans Georg Kreuzwendedich von dem Borne (born May 28, 1867 in Berneuchen , today Barnówko near Dębno / Neudamm, in Neumark ; † November 7, 1918 in Munich ) was a German geophysicist .

Life

He came from the Brandenburg nobility family Borne and was the third child of the Prussian chamberlain Max von dem Borne . After visiting the university, he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. He received a professorship at the University of Wroclaw and at the Technical University. He was also the head of the earthquake control station in Krieter near Breslau. As Rittmeister of the Landwehr Cavalry in Landsturm Battalion No. 2, he took part in the First World War. In the field he contracted an illness from which he died on November 7, 1918.

During that time he also developed an aircraft speedometer on a hydrodynamic basis, which was generally used in German and Austrian aircraft.

He married Sabine Elisabeth Brendel (born August 28, 1879) in 1901, with whom he had two sons and a daughter.
