George Grosz 1930

Drawings by the artist George Grosz, in which he captures and denounces the brutality of the National Socialist system, among other things, are shown and commented on . The drawings made between 1927 and 1935 were taken from Grosz 'portfolio "Interregnum", which he published in New in 1935. Further works by the artist complete the film. Grosz was mainly assigned to the New Objectivity art movement, but his work also has expressionist , Dadaist and futuristic features. In his work, Grosz repeatedly takes up social contrasts and criticizes and mocks those in power.

Grosz, who emigrated to the USA in mid-January 1933 , was expatriated after the National Socialists came to power on March 8, 1933, nine days after the Reichstag fire , as the first and initially only of 553 public figures immediately recorded. His works that still remained in Germany were confiscated by the Nazis as degenerate art , sold cheaply or destroyed.
