George Head Barclay

Sir George Head Barclay CVO , KCMG (March 23, 1862 - January 26, 1921 ) was a British diplomat .

Life

George Head Barclay was the son of Richenda Louisa Gurney (* 1828; † 1888 Barclay) and Henry Ford Barclay (* 1826; † 1891 Gurney). He studied Matric at Eton College and Trinity College (Cambridge) in 1881 . Me. and entered the foreign service on July 24, 1886 and became attaché in Washington, DC in 1888. In 1891 he was third class legation secretary in Rome. In 1884 he was employed in Madrid where he was chargé d'affaires from 1897 to 1898. In 1898 he was in Constantinople, from 1902 to 1905 he was first-class legation secretary in Tokyo. In 1905 he was promoted to counselor.

From April to July 1908 he was in Constantinople.

From 1908 to 1911 he was envoy extraordinary and ministre plénipotentiaire in Tehran.

From 1912 to 1916 and from 1918 to 1919 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Ministre plénipotentiaire in Bucharest . In 1920 he was retired.

He became CMG in 1898, CVO in 1906, KCMG in 1908, and KCSI in 1913. His daughter was Dorothy Katherine Barclay Lady Kennard.
