George Kinzie Fitzsimons

George Kinzie Fitzsimons (born September 4, 1928 in Kansas City , Missouri , † July 28, 2013 in Ogden , Kansas ) was an American clergyman of the Catholic Church and Bishop of Salina .

Life

George Kinzie Fitzsimons worked for the City National Bank from 1948 to 1950. From 1950 to 1954 he was a pilot in the US Navy . In 1956 he entered the Conception Seminary College in Conception and studied philosophy and Catholic theology . The Bishop of Kansas City-Saint Joseph , John Patrick Cody , ordained him on 18 March 1961 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Kansas City for priests . In 1970 he became deputy chancellor of the diocese and in 1974 vicar general .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 20, 1975 auxiliary bishop of Kansas City-Saint Joseph and titular bishop of Pertusa . The Bishop of Kansas City-Saint Joseph Charles Herman Helmsing dedicated it on July 3 of that year, the bishop ; Co- consecrators were William Wakefield Baum , Archbishop of Washington , and Joseph Vincent Sullivan , Bishop of Baton Rouge . From 1978 he was also pastor of Christ the King Parish in Kansas City.

On March 28, 1984 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Salina; on May 29, 1984, he was inducted into office at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. On October 21, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
