George Porter (Bishop)

George Porter SJ (born August 27, 1825 in Exeter , † September 28, 1889 in Bombay ) was an English clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bombay .

Life

George Porter entered the Jesuit order , and received on 15 June 1856, the sacrament of Holy Orders . Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on December 21, 1886 Archbishop of Bombay. The Apostolic Delegate in India and later Cardinal Antonio Agliardi donated him the episcopal ordination on February 27, 1887 . A month later, Porter donated Agliardi's successor as a delegate, Archbishop Andrea Aiuti , the episcopal ordination.

After two and a half years as Archbishop, Porter died at the age of 64.
