George Stephen Morrison (born January 7, 1919 in Rome , Georgia , USA ; † November 17, 2008 in Coronado , California , USA) was an American naval officer .

Morrison joined the United States Naval Academy in 1938. He graduated from the Academy successfully in 1941 and was sent to Hawaii with the rank of ensign . In 1943 he completed his pilot training in Pensacola (Florida), which he completed in the spring of 1944. Morrison flew combat missions for the US Navy during the Pacific War in World War II .

In 1963 he took command of the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard . Morrison was in command of the fleet during the Tonkin Incident in 1964. In 1967 he was promoted to Admiral . After the fall of Sàigòn in 1972, he was appointed Commander of Naval Forces in the Marianas , where, among other things, he led the relief operations for Vietnamese refugees until shortly before his retirement in 1975.

On July 3, 1971, Morrison was the keynote speaker at the decommissioning of his former ship, the USS Bon Homme Richard, in Washington DC. His son Jim Morrison , singer of the rock group The Doors , also died on that day . Morrison had another son and daughter; his wife Clara died in 2005.
