George Christos Timotheou (born July 29, 1997 in Canberra ) is an Australian football player who also has Greek citizenship. The central defender has been under contract with SV Zulte Waregem since July 2019 .

Career

Timotheou joined Blacktown City FC from Sydney FC's youth in 2015 , but returned to his youth club after a year. In 2017 he joined local rivals Sydney Olympic before moving to FC Schalke 04 in Germany a year later . Here he played in the Oberliga Westfalen for the second team of Schalke , who rose to the regional league at the end of the season . He was used in 23 games this season and scored two goals. At the end of the season , interim coach Huub Stevens brought him into the Bundesliga . On the last day of the season, Timotheou made his first Bundesliga appearance over 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw against VfB Stuttgart .

For the 2019/20 season, Timotheou switched to the Belgian first division club SV Zulte Waregem , who received a contract with a term until June 30, 2021 with an option for another year.

National team

Timotheou played for the Australian U-19 national team.
