George Washington Fleeger

George Washington Fleeger (born March 13, 1839 in Concord , Butler County , Pennsylvania , †  June 25, 1894 in Butler , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Fleeger attended the public schools in his home country and the West Sunbury Academy . During the civil war he served in the Union Army , in which he was promoted to brevet captain until 1865 . In the meantime, he was taken prisoner of war in 1864. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1866, he began to work in Butler in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1871 and 1872 . At times he was state chairman of the Republicans in Pennsylvania. In 1882 and 1890 he took part as a delegate at the respective republican party congresses in his home state.

In the 1884 congressional election , Fleeger was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 26th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Samuel Henry Miller on March 4, 1885 . Until March 3, 1887 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After that he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on June 25, 1894 in Butler, where he was also buried.
