In 1751 King Friedrich II appointed him as the successor to Philipp Otto von Grumbkow as chief captain of the Lauenburg and Bütow regions . The Lauenburg and Bütow lands in the east of Pomerania had a special position in Brandenburg-Prussia as a fiefdom of the crown of Poland, including their own chief captain. The knighthood of the country welcomed his appointment because he was a local and spoke both the German and the local Kashubian language .

His first marriage was to Charlotte Margarete Idea von Weiher. His second marriage to Henriette Sophie Louise, née von Krockow , had three sons, including Ernst Carl Ludwig von Weiher (* 1751–1814) and Moritz Heinrich von Weiher (* 1754–1822), who were district administrators in Lauenburg -Bütow circle.
