The Georgenberg is a mountain located about 2 km southwest of Bad Rodach . He has two peaks, the 403 m above sea level. NHN high Great Georgenberg with the Henneberger Warte observation tower and 550 m north of the Kleine Georgenberg with a height of about 355 m . The patron saint of the mountain is St. George , the patron saint of the Georgenberg Monastery , a branch of the Veßra Monastery built on the Great Georgenberg in the 12th century .
Henneberger Warte
The Henneberger Warte is a 30 m high observation tower that was completed in 1987 and is still open today. In good weather, numerous landmarks in Bavaria and Thuringia can be seen from its observation deck. For example the Thuringian Forest , the Coburg Fortress , Banz Monastery , the Staffelberg or the Heldburg Fortress . At the end of 2017, the lookout tower was renamed Egbert-Friedrich-Lookout Tower - Henneberger Warte , after the local politician, headmaster and local researcher Egbert-Friedrich, on whose initiative the tower was built.
