Georges Dubœuf

Georges Dubœuf (born April 14, 1933 in Crêches-sur-Saône , † January 4, 2020 in Romanèche-Thorins ) was a French winemaker and wine merchant .

Life

Georges Dubœuf is a descendant of an 18th century winemaking family from Pouilly-Fuissé in Burgundy . In 1964 he founded "Les Vins Georges Dubœuf", one of the largest wine merchants in France, which is supplied by 400 wineries and 20 wine cooperatives.

He became known with the nickname "le roi du Beaujolais" or "pape du Beaujolais" (King or Pope of Beaujolais) because he specialized in Beaujolais wines such as Beaujolais Villages AOP or Morgon AOP and became the best-known ambassador of Beaujolais. In 1993 he founded the wine museum "Le Hameau du Vin" in Romanèche-Thorins .
