Moeckli affair

One became known as Moeckli affair episode has sparked years of conflict (see also Jura question ) that finally establishing the Jura canton led. Georges Moeckli was responsible for poor welfare in the Bern government council. When his official colleague Ernst Reinhard died in September 1947, Moeckli wanted to take over his post in the construction and railroad department. The newly elected Grindelwaldner Samuel Brawand , a party colleague of Moeckli, also wanted this post. The government council provided Moeckli for this post, but at the request of councilor Hans Tschumi, the council awarded the office of Brawand on September 9, 1947 with 92 votes to 62. The fact that Brawand was German-speaking, Moeckli was French-speaking, played a decisive role in this. A reconsideration failed on September 17th. This led to a protest rally of two thousand people on September 20 in Delémont . Among other things, the industrialist Daniel Charpilloz spoke at this rally , who called for the establishment of a canton of Jura.
