Georges Nagel

Georges Nagel (born November 22, 1899 in Les Verrières , † November 25, 1956 in Geneva ) was a Swiss Egyptologist and theologian .

Life

Georges Nagel studied theology and Egyptology in Neuchâtel (1924 Lic. Theol., 1929 Dr. theol. ). He also studied in Berlin and Paris . From 1927 to 1930 and from 1938 to 1939 he participated in excavations in Deir el-Medina as an employee of the Institut français d'archéologie orientale in Cairo . From 1931 to 1937 he was pastor in La Chaux-du-Milieu . From 1937 he taught as a professor of Hebrew and the Old Testament at the University of Geneva , where he also gave courses in Egyptology from 1944.

His main research interests were New Kingdom ceramics and the Egyptian religion and its relationship to the Old Testament .
