Georges Walser began his training in 1900 as an apprentice-officier at the École navale the Navy . As a frigate captain, he was first officer of the large liner France and the battleship Lorraine . On December 27, 1924, he was also awarded the Officer's Cross of the Legion of Honor and in 1925 he was appointed commander of the 5th submarine squadron in the military port of Toulon. He was promoted to sea captain (Capitaine de Vaisseau) on April 28, 1926 and seconded to the Senate Naval Committee . In December 1926 he was appointed commander of the Guépard class belonging Great destroyer Bison . He then became the commander of a ship squadron of the Mediterranean Squadron and later commander of the battleship Courbet . In 1933 he took over the post of commander of the Rochefort naval base and was promoted to flotilla admiral (Contre-amiral) on October 23, 1935 . On December 25, 1936, he was also commander of the Legion of Honor.
