Georgetown is a drama by Christoph Waltz that premiered on April 27, 2019 as part of the Tribeca Film Festival . The biography tells of Albrecht Gero Muth and the murder of Viola Drath .

action

The impostor Ulrich Mott / Albrecht Muth would always have liked to be rich and respected. Now he marries the rich widow Elsa / Viola Drath in Washington DC, rises through her into high society and makes the acquaintance of powerful political actors. In the foreseeable future, when she naturally dies, he hopes, he will finally be free and rich and then finally be able to have all the high society parties he wished for. Despite her old age, Viola is still extremely sprightly. When the 70-year-old is found dead, Ulrich / Albrecht is immediately under suspicion. Not only the police are after him, also Elsa's / Viola's daughter Amanda, who is a judge, starts the investigation.

production

The film is based on a true story. The German Albrecht Gero Muth was sentenced to a long prison term in the USA in 2014 for the murder of his wife Viola Drath, who was more than 40 years older than him. Muth and Drath were known for throwing lavish parties in their row home in upscale Georgetown, attended by elite members of the Washington and international establishment. At the height of his eccentricity, East German-born Muth was known in the city for his habit of dressing in full Iraqi uniform and claiming to have influenced Middle Eastern politics as a regular visitor to the region.

The film is also based on the article "The Worst Marriage In Georgetown," which first appeared in 2012 in the New York Times Magazine. The script, which uses information from this article, was written by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Auburn .

The film is Christoph Waltz's directorial debut . He will also portray Albrecht Gero Muth, who is named Ulrich Mott in the film. Vanessa Redgrave plays the wealthy, murdered journalist Viola Drath, named Elsa Brecht in the film. Also has Annette Bening received a role in the film and should represent Amanda, the daughter of the murdered / killed. Jean Pearson took on the role of Michel Rocard , the former Prime Minister of France.

Filming took place in Toronto and Montréal in August and September 2017 . The film music was composed by Lorne Balfe .

The film was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival from late April to early May 2019 and premiered here.
