Georgi Georgiew-Gez (actually Georgi Ivanov Georgiev ; Bulgarian Георги Георгиев-Гец ; born October 4, 1926 in Raspopowzi (now part of Elena ), † September 2, 1996 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian actor.

Life

Georgiev-Gez was born in the village of Raspopovtsi, which today belongs to the city of Elena. During the war he worked as a front correspondent. After studying at the “Krastjo Sarafow” theater school in Sofia from 1949 to 1953, he worked as an actor at the Bulgarian National Theater. There he played contemporary roles such as the Strandshata in The Outlaws, Slatil in Borjana and the Molinero in Rast in Arko Iris , but also classics such as Lord Hastings in Richard III. and Lord Burleigh in Mary Queen of Scots .

Georgiev-Gez made his film debut in 1951 in the role of the locksmith in Morgen über die Heimat von Anton Marinowitsch and Stefan Sartschadschiew . At the Varna Film Festival he was awarded the Acting Prize several times, including in 1963 for his role in Anton Marinowitsch's crime film The Golden Tooth and in 1974 for Firelight over the Drava by Sako Cheskija . At the 1975 Moscow Film Festival , his role in Lyudmil Kirkov's Seljaninat s koleloto also won him the award for best leading actor. In the 1980s he starred in fewer films than before and often embodied disaffected and resigned men.

He has received several national awards as Honored Artist (1967), People's Artist (1971) and the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius (1976).
