Georgi Scharkow ( Bulgarian Георги Жарков ; born May 10, 1976 in Samokow ) is a former Bulgarian ski jumper .

Career

Sharkov made his international debut at the 1995 Nordic World Ski Championships in Thunder Bay . He retired from the large hill after jumping to 65.5 meters after round one and finished 54th in the end. From the normal hill he also couldn't reach round two with a jump of 48 meters and was 47th and last . No Bulgarian team competed in the team competition.

After the world championship, Scharkow started in the ski jumping Continental Cup . However, he remained without any points for the first few years. It was not until the 2001/02 season that he made the leap into the points. With the one Continental Cup point he won, he finished 280th overall at the end of the season. On January 12, 2002, Sharkov made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup . From the large hill in Willingen , however, he clearly missed the points. He was the only Bulgarian ski jumper to travel to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . However, he was eliminated in both individual competitions after the first round and only reached positions 45 on the normal hill and 39 on the large hill.

Between 2003 and 2005, Scharkow, who had meanwhile trained in the United States , only started at Continental Cups in America. He succeeded in February 2005 in Westby again the jump into the points. With the two points won, he reached 164th place in the overall ranking of the 2004/05 season . In his last season 2005/06 he started again in Europe, but remained without any points.

Sharkov ended his active ski jumping career at the age of 29 when he started at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin as one of only two Bulgarian ski jumpers. In the jumping competitions in the Stadio del Trampolino in Pragelato , as in 2002, he was eliminated after the first round. He reached 51st place on the normal hill and 44th place on the large hill.
