Georgi Valentinovich Boos

Georgi Walentinowitsch Boos ( Russian pronunciation : / bɐˈɔs /, Russian Георгий Валентинович Боос ; born  January 22, 1963 in Moscow ) is a Russian politician and businessman . From 2005 to 2010 he was governor of Kaliningrad Oblast .

Life and work

Boos grew up in Moscow in a Crimean German family. According to his own statement, his family name originally comes from Holland, and his ancestors include Russians, Poles, Jews and Armenians. In 1986 Boos graduated from Moscow with an engineering degree. He then did military service for two years near the town of Spassk-Dalni in the Far East of what was then the Soviet Union . 1988 to 1991: Engineer, Senior Engineer, Junior Researcher, Scientific Research, Technological Institutes and Lighting (VNISI), Moscow. At the same time, he was teaching mathematics at a Moscow school № 247.
From 1991 to 1995 he was director of the Moscow Scientific Production Enterprise “Svetoserwis”, which was founded by him and his father. In 1993 the company was converted into a public limited company. Since 1994 the company has been responsible for lighting in many Moscow facilities. He received many awards for his work at exhibitions. The company "Swetoserwis" has patented a number of lighting solutions, in the development of which GV Boos participated. He was the author and developer of the "vandal-proof lamp" (1995), which was specially designed for house entrances.
In 1995 he received his PhD.

Political career

Boos' career in politics began in 1996 after he was elected MP in a Moscow constituency in the State Duma general election in late 1995. In the Duma, Boos first joined the Our House Russia group and became deputy group chairman.
September 29, 1998 the Government of the Russian Federation, was appointed head of the State Tax Service of the Russian Federation, followed by a decree of the President of the Russian Federation - Minister of the Russian Federation for Taxes and Duties. In May 1999, Boos resigned from the Primakov cabinet headed by then-President Boris Yeltsin . In the parliamentary elections at the end of 1999 , Boos was re-elected and from then on represented the faction of the Putin- affiliated party “ United Russia ”. Also in the following parliamentary elections in 2003 Boos ran successfully in the same constituency and became deputy duma chairman of the “United Russia” faction.

On September 28, 2005, Boos took up the post of governor of Kaliningrad Oblast, to which he had previously been appointed by Vladimir Putin. During his tenure, in the wake of the economic crisis, there were protests against the regional government under Boos and, in some cases, against the central government in Moscow. First and foremost, the protesters called for a lowering of the road tax collected by the oblast. In 2010 it was reported that Boos would not be proposed for another term as governor due to his lack of popularity with the Kaliningrad Oblast population.

After the time as governor

On December 28, 2011, Georgi Boos was elected to the board of the All-Russian Exhibition Center . In June 2012, his position was dismissed.

In addition, on January 26, 2012, Boos was appointed CEO of the Russian energy company "Holding MRSK".

Private

Georgi Valentinovich Boos was married three times. Six daughters resulted from the three marriages. His hobbies are playing guitar and riding a motorcycle.

Boo's income in 2008 amounted to 122,370,965 rubles, of which 841,572 rubles earned on the main job, were transferred to the accounts of orphanages of the Kaliningrad region. In 2009 Georgi Boos's annual income was 86.4 million rubles , which is equivalent to about 2.2 million EUR.
