Spassk-Dalni ( Russian Спасск-Да́льний ) is a city in the Primorye region ( Russia ) with 44,173 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the Chankaniederung (Russian Prichankaiskaja nismennost ) about 200 km north of the regional capital Vladivostok . 20 km northwest of the city lies the Chankasee , into which the Kuleschowka and Spassowka flow through the town .

The city of Spassk-Dalni is administratively directly subordinate to the region and at the same time the administrative center of the Spassk Rajons .

Spassk-Dalni owns a station on the Trans-Siberian Railway (route km 9048 from Moscow ). The city is also on the M60 "Ussuri" Khabarovsk - Vladivostok highway .

history

The place was founded around 1885 as the resettler village Spasskoje (from Russian spas for savior ). With the establishment of a nearby station ( Jewgenjewka ) at the 1897 opened Ussuri in 1906 the importance of the place grew. In 1917 he was granted town charter under the name Spassk .

During the Russian Civil War , Spassk and the surrounding area were fiercely contested, as the well-known war song Partisans von Amur reminds of ( ... The partisan's hurray, | When the storm on Spassk succeeded ... ).

In 1926 Yevgenevka was incorporated and in 1929 the place was renamed Spassk-Dalni (Russian dalni for far , meaning the location in the Far East of Russia , in order to distinguish between Spassk in Penza and Spassk-Ryazansky in Ryazan ).

Culture and sights

A number of buildings from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century have been preserved in the city, such as the Tereschtschenski district , the train station, a chapel from 1907, the buildings of the trading company Kunst und Albers from 1908 and the teachers' college from 1915.

Spassk-Dalni has a local museum with a focus on the nature of the Primorye region.

economy

The most important operations in the city are the cement works of the company Spasskzement with an annual capacity of 3.5 million tons. The first was built in 1907, and others in 1934 and 1976. The importance of the cement industry is also reflected in the city's coat of arms.

Other branches of industry are mechanical engineering, light and food industries.

The area around Spassk-Dalni is one of the most important agricultural areas in the region.
