geography

The city is located in the southeastern part of the Sichote-Alin about 350 km northeast of the regional capital Vladivostok , on the Rudnaya River , which flows into the Sea of Japan about 30 kilometers southeast of the city . The settlement of Rudnaya Pristan is located at the mouth .

The city of Dalnegorsk is the administrative seat of an urban district of the same name , which emerged from the former Rajon and the rajon-free city directly subordinate to the Oblast.

There is a fixed road connection to Vladivostok. The mines near today's city of Dalnegorsk had been connected to the coast and the ore processing companies as well as loading points in Tetjuche (from 1945 Tetjuche-Pristan, since 1972 Rudnaja Pristan ) via the narrow-gauge railway of GMK Dalpolimetall since 1908 , the main line of which was dismantled in 2006.

history

The place was built in 1899 in the valley of today Rudnaja mentioned river Tetjuche (Russian Тетюхе of Chinese 野猪河 for boar flow ) when there of from the Switzerland immigrant Julius Brynner in place of the long-known and to a lesser extent exploited ore a lead - and Zinc mine was built. Brynner's son Boris kept the mining concession until 1931, making it the longest-running , large private company in the Soviet Union . Boris Brynner's son was the American actor Yul Brynner .

The initially larger town at the mouth of the river also bore the name Tetjuche and received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1930 (according to other information only in 1941 with the formation / separation of the Tetjuchinski rajon) ; the settlement near the mine on the site of today's Dalnegorsk was initially referred to as Verkhni Rudnik ("Upper Mine"). In the early 1940s, the mine and the associated ore processing facilities were significantly expanded. The associated village, which has grown considerably in this context, also received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1945, took the name Tetjuche and became the administrative seat of the Rajons, while the original Tetjuche on the coast was renamed Tetjuche-Pristan ("Tetjuche landing stage").

In 1972, as part of a campaign against geographical names of Chinese origin, the name was changed to Dalnegorsk (Russian dalni for far in relation to the Far East of Russia ; -gorsk is a standard ending in many Russian cities, see gorod for city , but here also gora for mountain ) . At the same time the river were Tetjuche in Rudnaja (of Russian ruda for ore ) and the settlement Tetjuche-Pristan in Rudnaja pristane (Russian pristane for shipping pier ) renamed.

1986 attracted some attention Dalnegorsk by the so-called level-611 UFO Incident (English "Height 611 UFO Incident"), a supposedly on the mountain Iswestkowaja (or height 611 crashed) Town Near UFO .

It was not until 1989 that Dalnegorsk was granted city rights, while Rudnaya Pristan has only been a rural settlement since 2004.
