Dunai ( Russian Дунай ) is an urban-type settlement with 7581 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the city district of the closed city Fokino , Primorye , which on the coast of the Peter the Great Gulf is.

The place was founded in 1907 when several families from Bessarabia , the area of ​​today's Republic of Moldova, arrived in the area of ​​today's Dunai. They named the place after the river Danube (Russian Dunai ). The attempts of the first settlers to grow wheat there as in their area of ​​origin failed due to the unfavorable climatic and cultivation conditions. Therefore the residents specialized in fishing in a row; mainly fish and seafood were sold to Vladivostok .

During the Russian Civil War , a partisan detachment fought in the area of ​​the settlement and defended an offshore island.

In 1929 a fishery artel was founded, which increased the delivery of salted fish to Vladivostok. Later fish from Dunai were also exported from the Soviet Union. Since 1937 a railway line connects Dunai with Smoljaninowo , from 1940 passenger trains operated.

On October 4, 1980, the closed town of Tichookeanski was formed (today Fokino), and Dunai, which had previously belonged to the Schkotowski rajon, was subordinated to its administration. The place has had the status of an urban-type settlement since the 1980s . The main branch of industry in the place today is ship repair. In the historical part of the place, (unofficially) "Old Dunai" (Russian Старый Дунай , Stary Dunai ), there are dachas where the long-established residents live.
