Plastun ( Russian Пласту́н ) is an urban-type settlement in the Primorye region ( Russia ) with 5350 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located on the bay of the same name in the Sea of Japan , about 400 kilometers (as the crow flies) northeast of the regional capital, Vladivostok . In the hinterland, the densely forested Sichote-Alin Mountains with Mount Gluchomanka rise up to 1595 m . Seven kilometers north of Plastun the river Djigitowka (formerly also called Iodsyche or Chantachesa) flows into the neighboring bay of Djigit. The two bays - together also called Rynda Bay - are bordered in the north by the steep Jegorow Cape (Mys Jegorowa) , which protrudes several kilometers into the sea and rises steeply to a height of 230 meters.
Plastun belongs to the Rajon Ternei , which occupies the northern half of the eastern flank of the Sichote-Alin in the area of the Primorye region. This sparsely populated area (0.5 inhabitants / km²) extends over 400 kilometers along the coast of the Sea of Japan. The Rajon administrative center of Ternei is 40 kilometers as the crow flies northeast, also on the sea coast.
history
The settlement was founded in 1907 after a Russian military post had been established further north on Jigit Bay in the 19th century. It got its name after the sea bay of the same name, which was named after his corvette Plastun by the Russian Lieutenant Wladimir Mazkewitsch (later Rear Admiral , † 1885) on a voyage of discovery in 1859, shortly after the Primorye area was annexed to the Russian Empire .
In 1932 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.
The number of inhabitants rose rapidly, especially after the Terneiles ("Terneiholz") forestry company was founded in 1971; since the early 1980s it has surpassed that of the Ternei Rajon Administrative Center.

Culture and sights
Due to the picturesque location on the sea coast and close to the wilderness of the Sichote-Alin with relatively good accessibility and investments by forestry companies with international participation, Plastun has developed into a small tourist center of regional importance. There is a hotel and a 9-hole golf course , "the only one between Moscow and Japan ". The regional Green Cup tournament has been held there every year since 2004 . There is also a paintball and diving club.
Economy and Infrastructure
Plastun is the center of forestry and the wood processing industry. The operations of the Russian-Japanese joint venture ( holding ) Terneyles , which emerged from the former state-owned company, with the joint-stock companies STS Technowood , PTS Hardwood , Plastun and others controlled by it , mainly produce for export to Japan, South Korea and China .
A small regional airport ( ICAO code UHWP ) is located north of the village in the valley of the Dschigitowka , to which there are regular flights from Vladivostok-Knewitschi via Kawalerowo through Vladivostok Avia with Yakovlev Jak-40 (2009 twice a week).
Road connection exists along the coast in a southerly direction to Rudnaya Pristan near Dalnegorsk, 86 kilometers away by road . From there, the regional road A181 leads via Kawalerowo and Arsenjew to Ussuriysk , where there is a connection to the trunk road network. There is a bus connection to Vladivostok via this road. In a northerly direction the road leads to the district administrative center of Ternei; a difficult-to-drive, unpaved road crosses the Sichote-Alin main ridge towards the river valley of the Great Ussurka (Bolshaya Ussurka, formerly Iman) and Dalnerechensk .
