Lessosavodsk ( Russian Лесозаводск ) is a city in the Primorye region ( Russia ) with 37,034 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The city is located in the Ussuri lowland about 300 km north of the regional capital, Vladivostok, on the Ussuri River , a right tributary of the Amur , just over 10 kilometers from the Chinese border.

The city of Lessosavodsk is administratively directly subordinate to the region and at the same time the administrative center of the raion of the same name (the city and raion have been under joint administration since 1992).

Lessosavodsk has a station on the Trans-Siberian Railway (station name Ruschino , route kilometers 8934 from Moscow ). The M60 "Ussuri" Khabarovsk - Vladivostok highway passes about 10 kilometers east of the city.

history

In 1924 the construction of a new plant began near a sawmill that had previously belonged to the merchant Borodin; the associated settlement was called Dalles (Russian Дальлес , from dalni for far in relation to the Far East of Russia , les for forest ). In 1932 it merged with the Novostroika settlement (Russian for new building ) to form the urban-type Lessosavodsk (Russian sawod for factory ). In 1938 town charter was granted.

Culture and sights

There is a city history museum in Lessosavodsk.

25 kilometers south of Lessosavodsk is the Schmakowka (Gornyje Kljutschi), one of the most important health resorts in the Far East of Russia.

The main branch of the economy is the wood industry, there are also companies in the light and food industry.
