Georgie ( Japanese ジ ョ ー ジ ィ ! , Jōjī! ) Is a manga series written by Man Izawa and drawn by Yumiko Igarashi . The manga, which appeared from 1982 to 1984 in around 800 pages, was originally designed primarily for young girls and can therefore be assigned to the Shōjo genre. It was also implemented as an anime television series in 1983 .

action

The girl Georgie lives on a farm in Australia in the second half of the 19th century with her brothers Arthur and Abel, her mother, her father and her uncle. She learns that she was adopted and that her parents were aristocrats before they were banished from England because they were accused of political opponents of the monarchy through an intrigue by Count Dangering. Georgie's mother was enslaved to Australia, where she managed to escape. While fleeing, however, the mother was killed by a tree in a storm. The farmer Butman found the mother with the child and adopted them.

Arthur and Abel both fall in love with her during puberty. It seems that Georgie's heart belongs to a noble boy from England - Lowell. He promises to marry her, but first he has to break off his engagement to Elise, whom he has known since childhood. When Arthur and Abel confess their love to Georgie, she travels to England to learn more about their real family and to meet Lowell again. Arthur and Abel follow her to protect and bring her back.

In England, Georgie finds Lowell again, but an intrigue by the Duke of Dangering, Elise's uncle, made it impossible for him to break the engagement. As the wedding preparations begin, Georgie and Lowell flee to the country, where Lowell becomes seriously ill. Only an operation can save him, but Georgie fails to raise the necessary money. So she decides to secretly bring Lowell back to Elise with the help of a sleeping pill so that he can be healed. A short time later she finds her father in London and learns more about her origins.

Since arriving in London, Arthur has been held captive by the Duke of Dangering because he happened to find out about the assassination attempt on the Queen. Before the Duke is able to kill Arthur, Georgie and Abel free him. Georgie's father and others bring evidence of Dangering's intrigue and betrayal, and he is arrested.

Georgie meets Lowell at a ball after his operation and explains why she had to leave him. They won't get back together even though they are still in love. Georgie decides to go back to Australia with her brothers and leaves her father in England.

Publications

The manga was published in Japan from 1982 to 1984 in individual chapters in the manga magazine Shōjo Comic , which at that time had a circulation of 300,000. The Shogakukan publishing house published these individual chapters in a total of five edited volumes. At the end of the 1980s Chuokoronsha published a new edition of the manga. Further new editions followed in 1996, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

The manga was also published in Indonesia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Spain, from 1994 to 1995 by Star Comics in Italy and from 2006 to 2007 by Tonkam in France. In Italy, Indonesia, South Korea and Hong Kong, the manga appeared under Igarashi's name alone. In addition, Igarashi claimed despite the Mitauroenschaft Man Izawas most of the profits and the license rights for themselves, which is why Izawa sued them. The trial ended on October 25, 2001 in Izawa's favor.

Anime

In the animation studio Tokyo Movie Shinsha ( TMS Entertainment ) a cartoon series based on the comic was created. Shigetsugu Yoshida directed the 45 episodes of the series. This was from April 9, 1983 to February 25, 1984 for the first time on Japanese television, on TV Asahi , broadcast. The series is more childlike than the manga and was written by Georgie! , as the manga is called, renamed to Lady Georgie (レ デ ィ ジ ョ ー ジ ィ) because it was feared that there could be gender confusion regarding the name Georgie .

The series was exported to many countries. It appeared in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Arabic, Swedish and Filipino. The German-language dubbing was shown as Georgie (without the Lady in the title) from the mid-1990s on the TV channels tm3 , RTL and RTL II . In 2006 and 2007 the entire series was released on two DVD boxes in Germany.

The German DVD boxes were released by the DVD film rental company KSM Films and the booklet scripts were written by the illustrator boki.b.

The German dubbing was done by EuroArts Entertainment on behalf of RTL Plus. Inez Günther was responsible for the script and direction.
