Gerard Claret i Serra

Gerard Claret i Serra (born March 10, 1951 in Andorra la Vella ) is an Andorran classical violinist and music teacher . He is the son of the Andorran politician Andreu Claret i Casadessús (1908-2005). His brother is the cellist Lluís Claret .

life and work

Claret was a student of Joan Massià , Gonçal Comellas , León Ara and Enric Casals . During his student days he also worked with Narciso Yepes and Maurice Gendron . He was awarded in the Tenuto competition of Belgian television and in the Maria Canals de Barcelona competition.

Since 1979 he has formed a chamber music duo with the pianist Josep Maria Escribano . He was the founder of the Ciutat de Barcelona quartet . He was a member of the Trio de Barcelona (1981) and the Quartet Numen . He directed the Orquestra Nacional d'Andorra , with which he has performed since 1993.

He performed important educational tasks at the Escola de Música de Barcelona , which he founded together with his brother Lluís and the pianist Albert Atenelle . He is director of the Festival Internacional Narciso Yepes d'Ordino in Andorra and the Institut Andorrà d'Estudis Musicals (Andorran Institute for Musical Studies).

In 1998 he was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi by the Generalitat de Catalunya . Since 2000 he has acted as chairman of the Fundació per a l'escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Foundation of the University of Music in Catalonia).
