Gerardus Jacobus van der Plaats

Gerardus Jacobus van der Plaats (born October 8, 1903 in Utrecht , † April 3, 1995 in Maastricht ) was a Dutch radiologist . He dealt with the basic work in the field of X-ray contact therapy and was considered a promoter of international relations.

Life

Van der Plaats was born as the fourth child of the father of the same name and his wife Johanna Juliana Stauffenbeil.

He studied medicine at the Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht until 1928 . This was followed by further training as a radiologist in Utrecht, at the Holzknecht Institute in Vienna and at the Hohlfelder Institute in Frankfurt am Main .

From 1930 to 1936 he worked as a radiologist in a clinic in Eindhoven , then in the radiological department of the Calvariënberg Clinic, which later became the St. Annadal University Hospital of Maastricht . In 1938 he received his doctorate and worked in clinical radiology until 1968. During this time, from 1955 to 1958, he was professor of radiology at the University of Groningen .

In 1962 he was awarded the X-ray plaque of the city of Remscheid for his services .

Van der Plaats left a wife and three daughters. His body was buried on April 8, 1995 in the family grave at St. Pieter's cemetery in Maastricht.
